The Hokkaido crane series is nearing an end, I think, for the time being. (I'm ready to move on to blue herons!) It's been fun sketching dancing cranes in all sorts of positions and playing with ways to paint the wings more fluidly and less rigidly.

Crimson crowns ablaze, two cranes engage in a graceful dance, a courtship ritual between mating partners - one, wings outstretched in an ardent display, the other, playfully bowed. Snow gently falls around them, framing their flirtatious yet elegant

I'm having so much fun with these cranes! Progress has been slow (time is scarce 😭) but I want to try exploring more techniques and styles on more long legged birds - sandhills, great blue herons, and egrets are on my list.
